John Delton Charles GILBERT
General Notes: John served a 5-year apprenticeship as a machinist at the CNR shops in Stratford. In 1962 he took a job with Cooper Industries also in Stratford where he held quality control, inspection and supervisory positions. He enjoyed a lifelong interest in steam generation. He maintained an extensive machine shop at his home. He was a scuba diving expert and a volunteer member of the Stratford Search and Rescue Unit. In November 1975 a large metal casting crushed his leg. He was able to return to work a year later. Since 1969 he suffered from diabetes which led to foot infections in 1985. He fought a courageous battle to stem the infections and deal with related medical problems. He had in excess of thirty surgeries and over 50 hospital admissions during this time. He maintained a cheerful and caring attitude and never lost his sense of humour. Burial Notes: Avondale Cemetary John married Grace Ruth FANGRAD, daughter of Edward FANGRAD and Ruth (Mary Elizabeth Ruth) HOPKINS. |
