General Notes: He travelled on the RMS Andania to Canada and landed in Halifax, NS, on June 20, 1925. He worked on a farm (Dippel) near Walkerton for a year to pay for his passage. In 1927 he moved to Hanover and found work in the Knechtel Furniture Co., where he was joined by his two brothers after about a year. They lived together until Jonathan & Adolf left for greener pastures. He attended the Mennonite Brethren in Christ Church in Hanover and met his future wife at the church camp in Stayner, ON. In 1943 he moved his family to Stratford, ON., where he found employment at the Kroehler Furniture Mfg. Co. which, during the war, built wooden parts for Lancaster bombers and 'Mosquitos'. After the war he went into his own business as cabinet maker until his retirement in 1969. He had a life long interest in the weather and kept meticulous records. The local newspaper frequently called on his expertise in this area.

General Notes: Uncle Adolf went to school in Nogath, West Prussia. He took over running the family farm in Dzingellen, East Prussia, from his brother Ed in 1925. To be allowed to immigrate into Canada he had to be a farmer. He came to Canada alone in 1926, arriving in Quebec City. He worked for the first year on a farm in Drysdale (Highway 21), near St. Joseph, ON. He was paid $60.00 for the year's work besides paying back his fare. He saved $40.00. The farmer was French catholic. In 1927 he moved on to Hanover where he worked at the Knechtel Furniture factory. The three brothers, who all worked at the Knechtel factory, set up housekeeping together. They played their brass instruments at the Hanover Salvation Army citadel, which U. Adolf had joined in 1928. In 1929 he looked for work in Windsor, Niagara Falls, Hamilton, Walkerville, Toronto and the McLagan Furniture factory in Stratford.
In the Spring of 1930 he visited Germany and worked in farming. After returning to Stratford, he worked at Preston-Noelting in Stratford until 1935, met and married Aunt Ruth at the local Salvation Army citadel in 1934. From 1935 - 40 he worked in farming. In 1940 he bought a farm in Londesborough where he started farming with $175.00 in his pocket. They moved from the farm to St. Catharines, ON, in 1957, where he worked for Bright's Wines, Farm Division, pruning in vineyards and general carpentry, etc. He retired in 1972, first to Waterloo, ON, then to Southampton, ON where they lived in the home of their daughter Ola and son-in-law Scott, then to a senior citizens apartment in Port Elgin, ON. During the war years, like all immigrants from Germany, he was reclassified as an enemy alien, had his house searched and reported to the police every month, until the war was over.

General Notes: Ruth Barbara Corman was born on August 25, 1913, in Stoney Creek, Ontario. Her parents were Selby Corman and Nettie Millen. She married Adolf Fangrad, a German immigrant, June 29, 1934, at the Salvation Army Citadel in Stratford, Ontario. They farmed together for most of their lives, first as labourers in the Stratford area, then, for 21 years, on their own farm near Londesboro, Ontario. In 1957 they gave up their farm and moved to St. Catharines, where Adolf found work with Bright's Wines in their large vineyard operation. In 1972 they retired, and moved to Waterloo, Ontario.
In their final years, they lived, first, with their daughter Ola and her husband Scott Payne in their home in Southampton, Ontario. With increasing need for personal assistance, they moved to assisted living accommodations in Port Elgin, Ontario, followed by a return to the Waterloo region, to take up residence in Cambridge Country Manor in Cambridge, Ontario.
Three children were born to Ruth and Adolf, Joyce, Ola and John. Both Ruth and her husband were active in the Salvation Army for their entire adult lives, as long as health permitted. Both played in the band and lived a consistent Christian witness.
While enjoying their sojourns at a trailer camp, Ruth and Adolf were befriended by the owners, Phyllis and Robert Ballantyne. Even though both camp and trailer were eventually sold by their respective owners, the relationship continued to flourish and become a vital support for Ruth and Adolf to this very day! For many years too, Roy Dale, a beloved grandson, assisted Ruth and Adolf in every way possible, to their great appreciation. Lastly, Heinz and Emma Fangrad, one of their nephews and his wife, added their many efforts and strengths to this circle of friends on which Ruth and Adolf increasingly needed to depend.

They later became members of the Bethel Pentecostal Tabernacle, Stratford, ON. U. John retired in 1974. He loved music, played the cornet and some violin. He was leader of the Salvation Army Band in Stratford for about 5 years, also played in the church orchestra. He accepted the Lord as a teenager in Germany and spent his life living for the Lord. He was a student of the Word. He loved to water ski, swim and go boating. His church affiliations were, Baptist in Germany, Salvation Army in Hanover and Stratford, and later, Pentecostal, in Stratford.

Martha is also survived by a brother, Adolf Fangrad and wife Ruth of Port Elgin, sister Alma Neumann of St. Catharines and sisters-in-law Elfriede Fangrad of Kitchener and Irene Fangrad of Orillia, twelve grandchildren, twenty three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Martha's family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9pm Thursday at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St. Kitchener (749-8467).
Transfer will be made to the Kitchener Mennonite Brethren Church (19 Ottawa St. N., Kitchener) at 12 noon Friday June 15, 2001 for a funeral service at 2:00 pm.
Interment Woodland Cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy donations may be made to the Camp Crossroads or Central Baptist Church Building Fund (cards available at the funeral home and at the church).

General Notes: John served a 5-year apprenticeship as a machinist at the CNR shops in Stratford. In 1962 he took a job with Cooper Industries also in Stratford where he held quality control, inspection and supervisory positions. He enjoyed a lifelong interest in steam generation. He maintained an extensive machine shop at his home. He was a scuba diving expert and a volunteer member of the Stratford Search and Rescue Unit. In November 1975 a large metal casting crushed his leg. He was able to return to work a year later. Since 1969 he suffered from diabetes which led to foot infections in 1985. He fought a courageous battle to stem the infections and deal with related medical problems. He had in excess of thirty surgeries and over 50 hospital admissions during this time. He maintained a cheerful and caring attitude and never lost his sense of humour.
